What's the problem with buying soft toys that are not ethically sourced?
Ethical soft baby toys are produced in a way that is morally the right thing for society, the planet, and the people. It's headline news that, many companies put their profits before the well-being of animals, people, and the environment. In worst case scenarios purchasing from less scrupulous brands means you’re 'supporting' unethical practices like child slavery, poor wages, animal cruelty, and pollution.
What are Ethical soft toys?
On the flip side, when you choose ethically sourced baby toys and organic soft toys you are showing you value the importance of workers, sustainable practices, animal welfare, and the environment. Look for certifications like GOTS, FSC, Cruelty-free, COSMOS. Often companies donate part of their profits to social or environmental causes too and will highlight this on their website.
Safer for your little baby and the environment
Babies have delicate skin, and organic cotton is gentle and kinder to a baby's skin. There is less of a chance of baby developing skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and skin allergies. It is mould resistant and antimicrobial too. It's also better for the planet!
Many of our products are organic, but you do pay a premium for premium products, and we do sell a lot of standard cotton items with no complaints. It really is down to how sensitive baby's skin is, personal preference, and budget.
Doesn’t use slave/child labour
It’s no secret that child labour is used in the manufacture of some of the West’s favourite toys – yet an expose in 2007 revealing a 13 year old Indonesian girl making Barbie dolls in a factory still shocked. The toy industry is still rife with bad practice; in 2007 21 million toys were recalled overall, some after toxic levels of lead were discovered in the paint. Imagine how this may have effected the people manufacturing these toys!

Waste reduction and recycling
Some ethically sourced soft baby clothes are made from recycled materials. Parents may make the mistake of thinking that just because a fabric is recycled, it’s somehow unclean. However, the fabric used to make recycled products is completely cleaned and repurposed, and, as it’s made from discarded fabric that would otherwise be thrown away. It takes less processing and therefore energy to be made than clothing made from raw cotton/plant material. Sustainable baby clothes and soft baby toys save landfill space and the energy needed to harvest new crop.
