Our Cookie Policy

By using our site, you agree to us placing cookies on your device and accessing them when you visit the site in the future. If you want to delete any cookies that are already on your computer, the “help” section in your browser should provide instructions on how to locate the file or directory that stores cookies.

Please note that by deleting or disabling future cookies, your user experience may be affected and you might not be able to take advantage of certain functions of our site, and won't get the best possible experience.

What Are Cookies

Almost all professional websites use cookies, which are tiny files that are downloaded to your computer, to enhance your experience, improve our website, and better target promotions.

This page describes what information they gather, how we use it and why we sometimes need to store these cookies. We will also share how you can prevent these cookies from being stored however this may downgrade or 'break' certain elements of the sites functionality.

For more general information on cookies see this quick BBC guide to website cookies.

How we use cookies

We use cookies for a variety of reasons detailed below, but in summary they improve the functionality of the website, enable us to learn how the website is used, and target promotions, and the cookies we use are:

(1) Site functionality cookies – these cookies allow you to navigate the site and use our features, such as “Add to Basket” and “Wishlist”.

(2) Site analytics cookies – these cookies allow us to measure and analyse how our customers use the site, to improve both its functionality and your shopping experience.

(3) Customer preference cookies – when you are browsing or shopping on our website, these cookies will remember your preferences (like your language or location), so we can make your shopping experience as seamless as possible, and more personal to you.

(4) Targeting or promotional cookies – these cookies are used to deliver promotions relevant to you. They also limit the number of times that you see an ad and help us measure the effectiveness of our campaigns.

Unfortunately in most cases there are no industry standard options for disabling cookies without completely disabling the functionality and features they add to this site. It is recommended that you leave on all cookies if you are not sure whether you need them or not in case they are used to provide a service that you use.

The cookies we set

If you create an account with us then we will use cookies for the management of the signup process and general administration. These cookies will usually be deleted when you log out however in some cases they may remain afterwards to remember your site preferences when logged out.

We use cookies when you are logged in so that we can remember this fact. This prevents you from having to log in every single time you visit a new page. These cookies are typically removed or cleared when you log out to ensure that you can only access restricted features and areas when logged in.

This site offers newsletter or email subscription services and cookies may be used to remember if you are already registered and whether to show certain notifications which might only be valid to subscribed/unsubscribed users.

This site offers e-commerce payment facilities and some cookies are essential to ensure that your order is remembered between pages so that we can process it properly.

In order to provide you with a great experience on this site we provide the functionality to set your preferences for how this site runs when you use it. In order to remember your preferences we need to set cookies so that this information can be called whenever you interact with a page is affected by your preferences.

Third party cookies

In some cases we also use cookies provided by trusted third parties. The following section details which third party cookies you might encounter through this site.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics collects information anonymously, it reports website trends without identifying individual visitors. It is simply used to help us produce a better website and promotions.

As we sell products it's important for us to understand statistics about how many of the visitors to our site make a purchase, do they stay on our site for long, which pages are most popular, do we have pages or products people don't show interest in, do there appear to be issues with how the website works on certain browsers or devices, etc, and this is the kind of data that Google Analytics cookies will track. This is important to you as it means that we can improve our website, focus on information you like, and find products that are most loved.

Google Analytics is one of the most widespread and trusted analytics solution on the web for helping us to understand how you use the site and ways that we can improve your experience. It is used by most websites in the UK.

You can opt out of Google Analytics without affecting how you visit our site – for more information on opting out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites you use, visit this Google page: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Social media
We also use social media buttons and/or plugins on this site that allow you to connect with your social network in various ways. For these to work the following social media sites will set cookies through our site which may be used to enhance your profile on their site or contribute to the data they hold for various purposes outlined in their respective privacy policies, including advertising.

Advertising platforms
We may use third-party advertising companies to serve advertisements on our behalf. These companies may use cookies or other technologies (such as a 1×1 pixel .gif file, also known as a web beacon), to tailor advertisements you see on the Website and third party websites, to track your response to advertisements, report on visitor interaction and to measure the effectiveness of advertisements.

If you prefer that we not share this data with partners, including third parties that use tracking technologies to deliver targeted display advertising based on such information, please visit http://www.networkadvertising.org/ to access the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out

How long will cookies remain on your computer or mobile device?

The length of time that a cookie remains on your computer or mobile device depends on whether it is a “persistent” or “session” cookie. Session cookies last until you stop browsing and persistent cookies last until they expire or are deleted. Most of the cookies we use are persistent and will expire between 30 minutes and two years from the date they are downloaded to your device. See the section below on how to control cookies for more information on removing them before they expire.

Disabling cookies

You can prevent the setting of cookies by adjusting the settings on your browser (see your browser Help for how to do this). We have also including helpful links above to see the privacy policies of third parties, including how to amend your settings.

Be aware that disabling all cookies will affect the functionality of this and many other websites that you visit, so be careful which cookies you disable/delete if you choose to.

Should you disable cookies?
This short article by a software security company gives a good and frank summary: https://www.cloudbric.com/blog/2018/01/disable-internet-cookies/

In summary, cookies alone cannot identify an internet user, and typically people only disable cookies because they don't like being targeted with adverts. However in our opinion we would rather see adverts more closely targeted at our interests (based on our browsing history) than adverts for products and services we have little interest in.

More information

Hopefully that has clarified things for you and as was previously mentioned if there is something that you aren't sure whether you need or not it's usually safer to leave cookies enabled in case it does interact with one of the features you use on our site. However if you are still looking for more information then you can contact us by email: info@little-mouse.co.uk
