A premature baby is defined as a baby born before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy, and with the earliest surviving baby on record born at just 22 weeks, the size of a premature baby can vary significantly.
So why is it most shops selling hats that are premature baby size have just one size option, and often with no indication of what size that is. Just a label that says 'premature'.
Why is a right sized hat for a premature baby important?
Keeping a baby warm is so important, but especially a premature baby. They won’t have bulked up like a full-term baby so will need a little help.
A very premature baby will be in an incubator on the NICU so a hat might not be required, but when the little one comes out for cuddles, popping a hat on baby’s head will be necessary.
