Sands - The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity

As part of Baby Loss Awareness week each blog post feature one of the amazing charities available to help support families who have experienced the loss of a baby.

Sands is a fabulous national charity that is 40 years old this year. It works on varying levels from direct bereavement support to families, education for professionals, fundraising, and lobbying for better care and prevention at government level.

The bereavement support is particularly useful, and is a great resource to anyone (family members and friends included) that has been effected by the death of a baby at any point in their lives. They have a great support helpline which can be accessed by email, telephone and on social media. They also have an online forum.

The bereavement support helpline is staffed by a small team of dedicated and experienced helpline staff to offer confidential, non-judgemental and compassionate support. They can offer bereavement support, practical information relating to decisions required after the death of a baby, coping with another pregnancy after the death of a baby, advice on supporting a bereaved parent and signposting to other organisations where appropriate

The telephone helpline is free to call from landlines and mobiles on 0808 164 3332The helpline team can also be contacted at helpline@sands.org.uk.

Sands also organises some beautiful remembrance events including the annual lights of love and the Sands Garden events.
